St Hilary's was founded in 1927 and is a day Preparatory School for boys (3-8) and girls (3-12). All staff are fully qualified, with assistants to help with the very young children. The buildings consist of light, airy, classrooms, a fully-equipped Science Laboratory, Music School, Art Studio, Design and Technology Workshop, Dining Room, a large Hall/Gymnasium with extensive stage, a specialist room for Information Technology, and a purpose-built Library. There is a separate self-contained unit for the Nursery with its own play-area and garden. The school aims at providing a happy caring environment, in which individual talents are encouraged and personalities are developed.
The children are prepared for the Common Entrance Examination and other examinations to independent senior schools.
In addition to a sound, academic training, the wide curriculum which includes French from 7 years, places emphasis on Art, Music and Drama. The school has three choirs and an orchestra, and there is a well established music tradition. The girls play netball and rounders and the boys play football and cricket. Tennis coaching is given in the top forms and weekly swimming lessons are given from the age of 6 years.
St. Hilary's bases its teaching on firm Christian principles and aims at producing kind, well-disciplined and happy children who are encouraged to reach their own highest academic standard.
